Day 8

Monday July 15, 2013
My sleepy family!
This day was full of awesome sites! We first headed over to the Hill Cumorah and Visitor's Center!
Looking up at Hill Cumorah from the pageant seats!
Isaac put Baylee right to sleep!
We looked around the Visitors Center, watched a movie then headed up the hill to the monument at the top!
Hill Cumorah Monument (one side)
Joseph Receives the Plates (second side)
Exhortation of Moroni (third side)
Eight Witnesses (fourth side)
Beautiful Monument!
Love the greenery and blue sky!
Looking down Hill Cumorah!
After we walked around Hill Cumorah we headed to the Palmyra Temple!
Temple from the entrance!
Everyone, but my Dad and I, were able to do baptism's for the dead. We took care of the kids and fixed something on the RV! They all loved the experience!
The clan!
Jones Family!
This is from the backside of the Temple looking at the Sacred Grove! They are the trees in the middle in the distance!
This is the backside of the temple and the window panes right below the steeple has a beautiful stain glassed picture of Joseph Smith in the Sacred Grove seeing the Father and the Son! It is beautiful!
After Hill Cumorah we headed to the Sacred Grove/Smith Farm
The Smith Family Log Home
Carter out on the back deck of the Log Home
The Frame Home was being built by Alvin, the oldest Smith son, he was building it for his future family and to house his parents when they got older! But in November of the year he started to build it Alvin passed away! The house sat idle for many months before the Smith's moved-in in 1825, even though much finishing work still needed to be done! Two months after they moved in the last payment on the home was due, unable to make this payment the Smith's lost their title to the property but arranged to continue living their as renters! In the spring of 1829 they were required to return to the log home!
Fireplace that Joseph hid the gold plates!
Frame Home
Threshing Barn was essential to the Smith Farm the central bay was used to thresh grain and the side bays was used to store the grain!
Threshing Barn
The Cooper Shop
The gold plates were hidden in the loft of this shop in October of 1827 from a curious mob!
In just 12 years the Smith family turned their 100 acres of forest into farm that provided for their needs!
This map shows how much land and where everything was in comparison to the Sacred Grove
Beautiful Sacred Grove!
Their were so many beautiful spots that I could picture the First Vision happening! It was truly amazing to be standing in there!
Next we headed to the Grandin Printing Press where the first copies of the Book of Mormon were printed!
Inside the store of the printing press!
The printing press was a 3 story building and they had to lower the pages down on this pulley system from the third to the second floor for binding!
Original Book of Mormon manuscript
Pressing Room
The ink all over the walls, floor and door are all stains from when they were doing the Book of Mormon! I thought that was amazing they are still there today!
Ink pads used for the Book of Mormon because shortly after they started using rollers! This is one of the last times they used the pads!
Front of the Printing Press
After we headed to the Whitmer Farm and Log Home in Fayette, New York where The Church of Jesus Christ was organized on April 6, 1830.
Outside the Whitmer Home
McKay is silly!

After we headed to Nolan's, a restaurant, located on Canadaigua Lake!
Carter chilling with Scott!
Playing on the shore of the lake after we ate!
